Notes and Editorial Reviews
This set brings together some of Wagner's best loved and most iconic music. Featuring passionate opera scenes and arias, stirring choruses and orchestral favourites, the collection is a fitting tribute to a great composer whose pioneering musical style changed the course of the history of opera.
The operas of Richard Wagner have never been more popular than they are today, and performances of his Ring cycle continue to fill opera houses all over the world. This collection begins with familiar items from Wagner's early operas Der fliegende Hollander, Tannhauser and Lohengrin and hten goes on to extracts from all four Ring operas. These are followed by the Overture and Prize Song from Wagneer's deeply human comedy Die Meistersinger von Nurnberg, and the set concludes with the Love Duet and the Liebestod from his tragic masterpiece Tristan und Isolde.
