Seller's comment :
Here's the third record of our Disco Singles series !

Two songs are by Khaled Barkat, a singer and composer born in a suburb of Algiers (El Harrach). Khaled is a self-taught multi-instrumentalist who has primarily been active as an actor in theater and movies throughout his life. More recently, he has ventured into filmmaking.
Produced in 1986 and as modern as the prevailing raï wave, this album draws from global pop and groovy music, inspired by Moroccan and Algerian repertoire. Self-produced by Khaled, the album features two killer boogie-funk tracks, "Zourini" (A2) and "Galouli Ensaha" (A1).
The second track is by a singer named Cheb Tati, a reknown raï vocalist hailing from Oran. In the mid-1980s, Hamadi Hadefi moved to Paris and recorded several tapes there, distributed in the Barbès market. He was already appreciated at that time for his voice. As raï gained recognition in the global music industry, Tati was approached by Blue Moon and brought to London in 1989 to record an album with reggae/dub producer Denis Bovell. The result was an album and a single — the later featuring some massive dub tracks, including "El Hammam Dub ».

Last but not least, the final track on the single recounts a family story. It was sourced from the only known recording of a Kabyle band from Northern France called Asif, formed by the Laouadi brothers (Amo, Saïd, and Ali). Originally from Bouria, in Northern Kabylie, the entire family immigrated to France in the early 1970s and settled in the suburbs of Lille. These young men formed the band in the late 1970's and quickly gained fame, performing at weddings throughout the region. The selected track was recorded in 1985 (and licensed the same year by one of the region's top labels: Slim Productions) and features a superb pop-boogie tune — we believed it to be a marvelous conclusion to this single.

Digitalization and mastering by Norscq, cover by Félcitié Landrivon (Brigade Cynophile), labels by Gaspare Balducci (Edition Biceps).
